Thusis belongs to the Viamala region in the Grisons. It lies at 720 meters above sea level and owes its foundation to the construction and securing of the Rhine bridge. The town also benefited from the construction of the passage through the Viamala Gorge. The Viamala Gorge as the most important sight near Thusis attracts tourists from all over the world. The Albula line of the Rhaetian Railway, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has a stop in Thusis. The historic hiking trail Via Spluga is also of touristic importance. It leads over the Splügen Pass from Thusis to Chiavenna (Italy).
