Sargans is the center of the Sarganserland. It is located at the intersection of the Alpine Rhine Valley and belongs to the vacation region Heidiland. The village is located at 483 meters above sea level and is the residence of over 6200 people. Due to its geographical location, Sargans is a regional economic and cultural center, an educational location with numerous schools, as well as a transportation hub. Sargans Castle, which houses the Sarganserland Museum, is the most important sight of the town. It was built in the 13th century as a fortress-like castle complex.
