Kriens is the second largest town in the Lucerne region with about 28000 inhabitants. It is located at the foot of Mount Pilatus at an altitude of 490 m above sea level. The town consists of the center with various quarters, the district of Obernau, the hamlet of Hergiswald and numerous individual farms on the mountain slope to Mount Pilatus. From Kriens, the city of Lucerne and the beautiful Lake Lucerne can be reached in a few minutes. Furthermore, the Sonnenberg lies between Kriens and Lucerne. It is sparsely wooded and benefits from its southern exposure. With the "blaue Bähnli" visitors are quickly on the Sonnenberg. From Kriens, the panorama gondola runs via Krienseregg to the Fräkmüntegg station on Mount Pilatus.
