9 Highlights at Lake Blausee
- The Blausee lives up to its name: it is deep blue. It is fed by the groundwater stream of the Kander Valley.
- The 0.64 ha lake was formed by a landslide about 15,000 years ago. The debris still lies in the lake today.
- The Blausee is situated at an altitude of 887 m above sea level above Kandergrund in the Bernese Alps.
- The water temperature of the mineral-rich mountain lake is almost constantly 8°C.
- The Blausee Nature Park covers an area of 20 hectares and includes not only the beautiful lake but also hiking trails through forest and nature.
- In the Sommerau clearing you can visit llamas and alpacas in summer.
- You can buy the Blausee trout on the spot in the restaurant, in the store or also by mail order.
- You can reach the Blausee easily by car and from Kandergrund or Frutigen by bus.
- A children's playground is located right next to the water house. There are also picnic areas and fireplaces with firewood.
For a family trip the Blausee is a very popular destination in summer. The water temperature here is almost consistently 8°C. Swimming is not allowed in the Blausee anyway. Next to the water house you will find barbecue sites, which everyone can use for free. Firewood is provided, in the evening you can get it in the restaurant next door.
What you can do at the Blausee
The Blausee Nature Park is open all year round. You pay an entrance fee to be able to enter it.
Offer at Swiss Activities:
Boat trips across the blue lake
The entrance fee already includes a ride on the glass-bottom rowing boat. With it you glide gently over the crystal clear water and wonderfully recognize the bottom. Tree trunks and rocks give the impression of being just below the water surface. In reality, they are up to 12 meters below. The turquoise blue lake gets its exceptionally beautiful color from the clarity of the water. Therefore, only the blue part of the light is absorbed and the water looks wonderfully blue. However, the boats only operate in the summer half of the year.
Fishing or bathing is not allowed in the blue lake because of trout breeding. There is one exception: An annual ice swim is held in early December to benefit charitable causes. You can also eat or buy trout here to prepare it yourself later.
Certified divers are allowed to dive in the Blue Lake in winter between November and March.
Blausee Hikes
At Blausee you will find pleasant hiking trails for walks through forest and nature. The Gorge Trail takes you to the Wolf Gorge via the so-called Rock Room, a niche between the rocks.
Take the bridge trail if you want to reach the nature playground or the water house. On the way you will pass boulders and moss-covered nature and go through impressive forests.
