Vitznau is situated between the southern slope of the Rigi and Lake Lucerne. The area is also called the Riviera of Lucerne. The lakeside village lies at 435 m above sea level and connects the Rigi by rack railroad and aerial cableway. The rack railroad takes about 35 min via various stops to Rigi Kulm at 1752 m. The small aerial cableway from Vitznau visitors to the mountain restaurant Wissifluh. Vitznau is easily accessible by boat through a small sheltered bay. Very popular are round trips from Lucerne across Lake Lucerne followed by a trip up the mountain. Worth seeing in Vitznau is the artillery fortress built in World War II, which is now a museum and hotel at the same time. Even the casemates and tunnels can be visited.
