Riviera is a 15 km long valley at just under 300 m above sea level, where the Ticino river runs. It stretches from Biasca in the north to Claro, north of Bellinzona. The valley is characterized by the Gotthard highway A2 and the Gotthard railroad. The steep mountain slopes of this valley are uninhabited. In the western part, the mountain peaks of Cima di Bri and Poncione Rosso (both about 2500 m above sea level) border the valley. To the east are Torrent Alto (just under 3000 meters above sea level) and the somewhat lower Pizzo di Claro. The Riviera district is bordered to the east by Graubünden. It includes the municipalities of Biasca, Iragna, Lodrino, Osogna, Cresciano and Claro
