Combine Lucerne's local mountain with a panoramic train ride from Lucerne.
The Silver Round Trip starts in Lucerne. Take bus number 1 (direction Kriens/Obernau) right in front of Lucerne train station. After an eleven-minute bus ride to the "Kriens, Zentrum Pilatus" stop and a short walk, you'll reach the valley station of the panoramic cable car in Kriens. Enjoy the 15-minute ride to the Krienseregg middle station.
There, you can relax on the terrace of the Krienseregg restaurant (own cost) and enjoy your time while the kids play at the Pilu Land playground.
After another 15-minute ride with the panoramic cable car, you’ll reach the Fräkmüntegg middle station. At Fräkmüntegg, you can test your climbing skills at the rope park (own cost) or try one of the local specialties in the self-service restaurant (own cost).
At Fräkmüntegg, you’ll also switch to the "Dragon Ride" aerial cable car and reach the summit of Pilatus Kulm after an exhilarating 5-minute ride. With its spacious interior, cockpit-like design, and large windows, the Dragon Ride gives the impression of sitting in a helicopter.
Once at the top, you can enjoy the panoramic views over Lake Lucerne and the Swiss Alps from the summit and decide whether to stay in the panorama gallery or relax on the terrace. You can summit one of the peaks (5-10 minutes) or enjoy a local specialty at the Hotel Bellevue or Hotel Pilatus Kulm restaurant (own cost). Many hiking opportunities invite you to explore the Dragon Mountain above Lucerne.
The steepest cogwheel railway in the world (built in 1889) takes you from Pilatus Kulm down through fascinating rock walls, bubbling mountain streams, and lush alpine flower meadows to Alpnachstad. In Alpnachstad, you’ll take the train back to Lucerne.
The Silver Round Trip can also be done in reverse order with the train from Lucerne. Please check the schedule before your visit for departure times.
