The history of Maison Cailler began in 1819 when François-Louis Cailler, a Swiss chocolate pioneer, founded the first chocolate factory in Switzerland. Since then, Maison Cailler has become a world-renowned brand and the oldest still-active chocolate brand in Switzerland.
Maison Cailler is not just a chocolate factory. It combines a museum, workshops, an outdoor experience and an exciting Escape Game. A children's playground, café and boutique are available for visitors who want to spend a little more time at Maison Cailler.
For families, a visit to the chocolate factory means a holistic experience that appeals to all the senses while providing entertainment.
The Museum of the Maison Cailler offers an interactive tour through the history of chocolate and the Cailler brand. Visitors can learn more about the origins of the cocoa bean, discover the evolution of chocolate making over the centuries and uncover the secrets of Cailler chocolate.
Of course, no visit to Maison Cailler is complete without tasting the fine chocolates. After the tour, you'll get the chance to taste a variety of Cailler chocolates.
Maison Cailler is open all year round, with the exception of December 25 and January 1. Admission prices vary depending on age and group size. We recommend you buy tickets online in advance to avoid waiting.
Attending a chocolaty workshop is a special highlight of your visit to Maison Cailler. Whether you want to make chocolates or a work of art out of chocolate, you will be perfectly guided by experienced chocolatiers. You will be introduced to the arts of tempering, conching, and ganaching, and will be able to make your own chocolate creations.
At Maison Cailler, you'll be spoiled for choice from a variety of workshops. Here are just a few examples:
A chocolate course is also a good idea for a bachelor party, Valentine's Day or a team event.
A life-size interactive chocolate game awaits you outside the factory. The fun, family-friendly tour takes you from the factory through the picturesque countryside of the village of Broc. All you need is your smartphone and you're off on a 2.5km chocolate adventure with Alexandre. Each participant will be rewarded with a chocolate surprise at the end. The trail is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs.
The Escape Game immerses you in the world of Cailler chocolate in an authentic historic carriage. Here, too, a delicious reward awaits you. Ideally, you play this game with 3 to 5 people. It lasts 90 min.
At Café Cailler you should definitely try the hot chocolate. Besides hot and cold drinks, you can also get light snacks here. The desserts were created by the Cailler chocolatiers.
In the Cailler Boutique, you can buy gifts and souvenirs, in addition to the entire Cailler product range. These include mugs, T-shirts and posters. In the confectionery you will find exquisite and authentic Swiss chocolate creations.
Maison Cailler is located in Broc, south of Lake Gruyère in the Fribourg region.
By train you reach the station Broc Fabrique via Fribourg and Bulle. From Bern it takes about 1:30 hours.
If you arrive by car, take the highway A12 between Bern and Lausanne. Take the Bulle exit and take the H189 in the direction of Charmey-Jaun. In Broc itself, take the 3rd exit at the traffic circle and follow Rue Alexandre Cailler and Rue Nestlé to Rue Jules Bellet. There is free parking next to the factory.
The Chocolarium is not the only chocolate factory you can visit. In our article about Swiss chocolate factories you will find many more sweet fortune factories.
