Do you feel like action and adrenaline? Do you want to leave your comfort zone or just try something new?
Then a parachute jump from the helicopter in Interlaken is just the thing for you. Experience Interlaken from over 4000 m above sea level in free fall.
Maybe you have some questions in your head before your first jump. Therefore I will guide you step by step through my first skydive. I hope your questions will be clarified
First of all: You don't have to worry!
It was the first time for me as well and it was definitely worth it. The feeling of flying in free fall at up to 200 km/h towards the ground is breathtaking. The provider Skydive Interlaken is highly professional and gave me a safe feeling from the beginning to the end
Michael, my jump master, was incredibly experienced and already has over 13,000 skydives behind him
But always in order.
The company location of Skydive Interlaken in Wilderswil can be reached by post bus in 10 min from Interlaken. From Wilderswil train station it is a 10 minute walk to Mittelweg 11, where Skydive Interlaken's base is located. Alternatively, guests can be picked up by a free shuttle bus in Interlaken.
At the base, we were immediately greeted in a friendly manner and were able to sign the registration for the skydive. This process took less than five minutes. And since we had already booked and paid for our skydive in advance, we could start right away.
Book skydive:
After that, we deposited our luggage, emptied our pants and jacket pockets, and slipped into our skydiving suits. By "we" I mean Dennis, my work colleague who also wanted to experience his first skydive, and me
Dressed and already a bit nervous, we were allowed to go through the skydiving instructions with a Jump Master. He explained us how to get in and out of the helicopter, how to behave in the air during freefall and how the landing takes place at the end
Leon's tip: You can put on the comfortable suit over your clothes. Depending on the weather, you wear a sweater or a thermal shirt under the suit. For us, a T-shirt under the suit was enough at about 20 °C.
After the instructions, a VW bus took us from Wilderswil to the helicopter airfield. The ride took about 15 min. With us were our two Jump Masters Michael and Lorenzo. Dennis was allowed to jump with the Italian Lorenzo, while I had the pleasure with Michael from South Africa. Michael has already more than 13'000 skydives in his experience, which reassured me additionally.
Arriving at the airfield, we first had to wait 10 min until our helicopter was back from the last sightseeing flight. Meanwhile Dennis and I agreed who would jump first.
We agreed that Dennis would have his turn first.
Then it was time. The helicopter returned and our skydive approached. Our tandem masters checked our equipment again and dressed us properly for the skydive.
Leon's Tip: Jumping second gives you an extra adrenaline rush as you watch your colleague fall out of the helicopter.
Michael and I were the first to board the helicopter. Dennis and Lorenzo followed us immediately. It was pretty cramped in the helicopter with four of us, but we had completely different things on our minds at this point
We took off and flew through the Lütschen valley to the ridge of the Schynigen Platte. The view from the helicopter was already an absolute highlight. We saw Interlaken, Lake Brienz and Lake Thun and the triumvirate with Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in the background
Slowly we reached the drop height where the helicopter hovered in place. Dennis and I knew what was in store for us now. The door of the helicopter was open and the adrenaline shot into our blood
Of course, our nervousness also reached the highest level by then
Leon's Tip: Jumping out of a helicopter has a big advantage. The helicopter can hover in the air and therefore there is no stress during the jump. So if you want to take a few seconds, it's not a problem in this case.
Dennis and Lorenzo moved from their seat in the helicopter to the skid. And there they stood
At 4'000 m above sea level in the air above Interlaken
Just before the jump
My adrenaline and nervousness rose to infinity just by watching this. Dennis took a deep breath and jumped. Within seconds the 1.80 m tall man disappeared together with Lorenzo. Several times they turned around their own axis during the free fall.
Now it was my turn
Michael instructed me to walk towards the skid of the helicopter. The view was indescribable. Standing there felt surreal to me. Michael had mentioned earlier that the most important thing was to just enjoy the skydive. I followed his advice and started laughing soon after the jump
My sense of time during 45 seconds in freefall was quite distorted. To be honest, I couldn't really perceive the view at all. However, this changed as soon as Michael pulled the parachute and we switched from freefall to paragliding.
During the paragliding flight I could then perceive the beautiful landscape around Interlaken. Still overwhelmed by the parachute jump, I was allowed to steer the paraglider and navigate us towards the company building in Wilderswil.
Shortly before landing, Michael mentioned again that I should stretch my legs for the landing. Perfectly landed, and still full of adrenaline, the joy about my first skydive was hard to miss
Dennis, who had landed next to me before, looked overjoyed. We hugged each other and could hardly believe the past 15 min of our lives
For both of us it was clear: That was incredible!
Back at the base of Skydive Interlaken we were allowed to watch our shots in the helicopter, freefall and paragliding after only a few minutes
The whole experience felt more and more real
Dennis and I sat there and were totally happy and fulfilled. Maybe also a little proud that we had dared to do it. For both of us it was one of the greatest experiences ever.
Skydiving in Interlaken is definitely recommendable from our point of view. It is a unique experience that you will not forget so quickly. It is absolutely safe and is performed by highly professional tandem masters.
