Hofstetten bei Brienz is located in the Bernese Oberland at 646 m above sea level and stretches northwards up the Gummialp. There, the peaks Höch Gumme (2205 m above sea level) and Arnihaggen (2207 m above sea level) still belong to the Hofstetten area. The village is known for the open-air museum Ballenberg, whose western entrance is located here. The open-air museum shows more than 100 historical buildings and house landscapes reconstructed in the original from all regions of Switzerland. Rural crafts and ancillary trades are demonstrated here. Hofstetten bei Brienz is situated at the foot of the Brienzer Rothorn on a plateau with little traffic. Besides many hiking possibilities, there is the nearby Lake Brienz for bathing and water sports enthusiasts. It is only 10 minutes away by bus.
