Engelberg is located at 1013 meters above sea level and was built around a Benedictine abbey. It is the largest summer and winter destination in Central Switzerland. The village is connected with two large excursion areas. On the one hand, the Rotair cable car leads to the three-thousand-meter mountain peak Titlis in the south, and on the other hand, the sunny Brunnige area is easily accessible in the north. In winter Engelberg is known for its freeride routes and in summer hiking, mountaineering, climbing, golfing and biking are very popular. Skiers and snowboarders will find 90 kilometers of slopes here in winter.
